ManTech: History of Computers

Hey there! This is my first time to blog so I don't really know what to say at first and my english is a little awkward in grammar so please bear with it ok? =)

Last thursday we have discussed about the history of computer and some infos about it. From abacus to slide rule to Napier's bones to difference engine until the analytical engine that Charles Babbage created. Here's a picture of an analytical engine:

It uses punch cards to store data and it can calculate certain formulas and algorithm under the control of a looping program. Imagine what kind of a brain does Charles Babbage had? He started the most common device that revolutionize I.T. today. Unfortunately he had no time to finish it because of financial, political and legal issues until he eventually past away. But until today we thank him for starting the concept of the computer and for that he was called the Father of the Modern Computer.

So time for the off topic part of my blog..

I remember Marice sharing about Chikka that Globe and Smart refusing to give some shares for Chikka. So Chikka made a free program that offers free text messages to Globe and Smart users. It's some sort of a revenge but not in a type of hatred. It simply means business.

It is just like the way Sun cellular started. This was a story told by Ms. Ruvivar at last year's POLIGOV class. Lance Gokongwei is a Filipino businessman, he currently owns Sun cellular, Cebu Air Pacific, Digitel, the makers of C2 and Robinson Malls. He is also the son of John Gokongwei, also a Filipino wealthy businessman. Before he started Sun cellular, he offered a business partnership to Globe but they refused it. He tried it also to Smart but they refused him also. By that time Globe and Smart are at the peak of domination and competition. So what he did is he started a telecommunication company that is much much more cheaper and offers Unlimited texting and calling to its subscribers. So in effect, Globe and Smart has nothing to do but to compete with it and now offers cheap text (unlike before 1php per text) and unlimited texting ONLY, no unlimited call to its subscriber.

A little rundown of unlimited text and call costs and its duration.
Note: All of this offers need to register for 1php except for Sun.

Globe to Globe- 20php @ 1 day
40php @ 2 days
80php @ 4 days
.10 centavos per second call

Smart to Smart - 15php @ 1 day
30php @ 2 days
60php @ 4 days
.35 centavos per text @ 1 day

Sun to Sun - 50php @ 7 days plus 1 hour free call
150php @ 30 DAYS!!! plus 4 HOURS FREE CALL!!!
150php @ 7 days unlimited call and text
450php @ 30 DAYS!!! UNLIMITED call and text

If only Globe and Smart accepted Lance's offer.. then maybe until now there is no unlimited texting...! OUCH!
